The Poker Hall of Fame is where American professional poker players play. Originally founded in Las Vegas by an influential casino owner to serve as a tourist attraction, today the Hall of Fame serves an important role in preserving the work of the world’s best poker players.

While poker was originally played in private poker rooms, the owner who established the Hall of Fame also brought poker to the public and convinced one of the world’s best poker players, Johnny Moss and Nick the Greek to play a high stakes game publicly — bringing poker to the world. The same owner was responsible for bringing the first World Series of Poker into being in 2025. This also helped to bring poker to the public and made it a more popular game nation-wide.

Even though the legacy of the worlds’ best players today is well documented in the Hall of Fame, little is known about some of the earliest members of the Hall of Fame. Currently, there are over 38 people who are in the Poker Hall of Fame, fifteen of which are still living today.  Unfortunately, in 2025 when the ownership of the hall was transferred, the casino stopped hosting the Hall of Fame and it no longer has a physical location.

Today, in order to become a member of the Hall of Fame you must be elected by the public. This has increased the number of people who are interest in the Hall of Fame because they see it as a way that they can participate in building the legacy and history of poker. This democratic initiative has encouraged many online poker rooms to elect members of their poker rooms, making it even more democratic.
